Introduction to Clan Douglas
Nestled in the breathtaking landscape of the Scottish Borders, among rugged crags and roaring waters, where if you're lucky you may see a golden eagle soaring overhead, lies the beautiful town of Hawick, home of Clan Douglas cashmere.
Hawick is a remarkably unchanged, traditional place, and possibly the most important of those traditions is the manufacture of cashmere. Scottish cashmere is renowned as the finest in the world, and of that, Hawick cashmere is regarded as by far the softest and most comfortable.
Some say that softness and comfort comes from the cool, dark Scottish waters that Clan Douglas takes its name from, water so soft that a rain shower feels like a walk in the fresh morning mist. It is this water which gently opens the cashmere fibres, and allows them to achieve their maximum softness.
Others say it comes from the skills and instincts of the craftspeople we employ to painstakingly create every stitch of every garment. With nearly 400 years of experience between them, the men and women who make our clothing come from generations of Hawick spinners, knitters and weavers, born with the knowledge and dedication to create perfection.
Whether it is from the water or from the experience of generations (or, as we believe, from both in equal measure), the end result is the same - when you buy a Clan Douglas garment, you will receive nothing but the softest cashmere, crafted with complete attention to detail into the finest pullover you could ever hope to own, and one that will last a lifetime.
